Butanol Fermentation | BiotechStudies
ACETONE AND BUTANOL FERMENTATION
- Nature= strictly an anerobic
- Bacteria= clostridium acetobutylicum it is gram +ve anaerobic endospore forming bacteria
Corn meal medium=
- it is used for the production of acetone and butanol fermentation.
- Corn meal= 8 to 10 %
- Corn powder convert into starch
Molasses medium=
- it contain 6% sucrose, aluminium sulphate, calcium carbonate, superphosphate and cornsteep liquor.
Fermentation pass through 3 phages=
1). Rapid bacterial growth
2). Production of acetic and butyric acids
3). Evolution of CO2 and hydrogen.
Phase 1=
- rapid growth and production of acetic acid, butyric acids.
- Time period= evolution of H2 and co2.
- For 13- 17 hrs for incubation .
Phage 2=
- rapid conversion of acids into acetone and butanol leading to decline in acidity of the medium and this phage is known as acid break.
Phase 3=
- merked decrease in gas evolution and production of acetone and butanol.
Corn meal medium yield butanol, acetone, and ethanol in 6:3:1 ratio, while for molasses the ratio is 6.5:3:5.
